Ryan Selkis has worked for a number of companies in various roles, including as an analyst for JP Morgan for a brief period. He later founded a company called Good Benefits, Inc. in 2011, where he worked as CEO until 2014. While in this role, he also founded a company called TBI Consulting, LLC. During this time, he was pursuing a Master's at the MIT Sloan School of Management but left the program in 2014.
After dropping out of graduate school, Selkis worked as the director of growth for the Digital Currency Group until 2016. From January 2016 to July 2017, he worked as managing director for Coindesk.
On October 26, 2017, Selkis tweeted that he had published a whitepaper titled, “Introducing Messari: An Open-Source EDGAR Database for Cryptoassets.” He founded Messari with Dan McArdle in January 2018.
Selkis graduated cum laude from Boston College, receiving a B.S. in Finance. He later attended the MIT Sloan School of Management, with a focus on entrepreneurship and innovation. On his Linkedin page, he specifies that he dropped out of his graduate education, "because bitcoin."
