Loeffler became the CEO of Bakkt in 2018. In September, she wrote a post in the company's blog explaining that the company intends Bakkt to function like a regulated futures market, rather than an unregulated crypto exchange. The company hopes to help develop the crypto market infrastructure by building Bakkt off of existing futures market practices.[4]

In December 2019, Loeffler resigned from her position with Bakkt to become a U.S. senator (R., GA). She later joined the Senate Agricultural Committee, which has jurisdiction over the CFTC.[5][6]
