Payment tokens

Payment tokens are tokenized stores of value that can be used as a proxy or substitute for currency. They often exist as part of an enclosed environment, such as a privately-managed service in a physical building, or a digital environment like a software platform. Some digital assets can be used as payment tokens.[1] Payment tokens can be used in non-crypto projects as well; Square, the payment application developed by Twitter creator Jack Dorsey, uses digital payment tokens as part of its process of digitally settling retail transactions more securely.[2][3]
