Jihan Wu is the co-founder and former CEO of Bitmain, the world's largest manufacturer of cryptocurrency mining hardware, including ASIC chips designed specifically for cryptocurrency mining.[1]

Background

After Wu graduated from Peking University, he worked for several years as an investment analyst for a private equity fund. He discovered bitcoin in 2011, translating Satoshi Nakamoto's whitepaper from English to Chinese (he claims to this day that he is the first person to have done so). He founded Bitmain in 2013.[2][3]

Overview

Jihan Wu is an outspoken figure in the crypto space, known for arguing with his critics, as well as critics of bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general, on Twitter. He is a notable proponent of Bitcoin Cash.[4]

Wu as CEO

In 2019, Bitmain's CEO and co-founder Micree Zhan Ketuan was dismissed from his role by Wu. In December 2019, Zhan stepped down as CEO; Wu then assumed the role.[5] By January 2020, he had ceased to be the company's legal representative.[6] Zhan filed multiple lawsuits against Bitmain and its subsidiaries to regain his lost position.[7]

Education

Wu attended Peking University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in economics and psychology.[8]
