Founded in 2014, Coinigy started out as a cryptocurrency data service that provided real-time price charts, news and technical indicators for subscribers. In 2016, Coinigy raised $400,000 to enhance the platform's trading capabilities to what business development director Derek Urben termed the "2.0" version.[1]

By the end of 2017 when bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies were heading toward their all time high prices, Coinigy provided an integrated data and trading service for cryptocurrency traders. Offering both desk top and mobile access, Coinigy had about 80,000 users on the platform at that time.[2]
