Bitcoin.org is the name and the address of a website that promotes the use and development of bitcoin.

Bitcoin.org was established by Satoshi Nakamoto around the time he published the bitcoin white paper in 2008.[1] According to the bitcoin.org website, Nakamoto gave the domain to people other than bitcoin developers in order to distribute responsibility and reduce the risk of any person or group gaining control over the bitcoin project.[2]

Control of the domain became controversial in the bitcoin community, reportedly spilling into a public debate on GitHub in July 2018. Two of the early acolytes of Nakamoto named Cobra and Theymos seem to be the main proprietors of the site. While expressing conspiracy theories and promoting anarchic philosophies on social media, Cobra and Theymos's biggest offense to some bitcoin developers is that they evidence an insufficient contempt for bitcoin cash, which was spun off from bitcoin in the August 2017 hard fork.[3]
